JESSY SMART in the field
The System JESSY SMART (Subsurface Magnetics: Accurate Rapid & Tough) that had been developed in close cooperation with
IPHT opens up the possibility for fast and efficient geomagnetic mapping of up to 3 ha/h.
Extremely sensitive superconducting sensors so called SQUIDs (Superconducting QUantum Interference Devices) enable the system to generate a highly spatial resolved imaging of underlying magnetically structures.
Based on the different magnetic properties of subsoil and other materials JESSY SMART allows the detection of foundation remnants, trench backfilling, charcoal and ashes, ceramics and metal objects e.g. tools, piping and power lines as well as ordnance. Additionally caves, brownfields, as well as geological structures can be detected in the depth (down to 15 m) with very high spatial resolution in the centimetre-range.
Archaeological sites such as Neolithic double-ring ditches in Thuringia, as well as ancient urban settlements of different periods in Peru, England and Mongolia had been discovered in close cooperation with e.g. the “Thüringer Landesamt für Denkmalpflege und Archäologie”.
Simultaneously newer remnants e.g. old industrial sites could be mapped extensively and rated. This high quality data achieved by JESSY SMART results in better planning reliability for potential builders.
